Ian Marsden

Ian is a client centric litigator with a focus on commercial litigation and corporate insolvency.

With 15 years’ experience, Ian joined Kardos Scanlan in 2018 from Kemp Strang. Throughout his years of dedicated practice, he has earned a reputation as a forward-thinking, strategic solicitor, capable of tackling intricate legal challenges with skill and precision, often in adversarial circumstances. In addition to his legal qualifications, he also holds an MBA from MGSM.

Taking a cue from his other interests, Ian understands the significant impact legal challenges can have on businesses and takes a client first approach to each matter. He aligns legal strategies with his client’s business objectives. Ian’s ability and dedication has earned him the trust and loyalty of his clients.

Ian’s commercial litigation practice covers a broad range of areas for largely SMEs and listed corporations. He has a particular interest in partnership and shareholder disputes, restraints of trade and the protection of commercially confidential information, intellectual property disputes, claims under the Corporations Act, building and construction disputes and misleading and deceptive conduct and fraud claims. Ian has conducted matters in all courts of New South Wales, the Federal Court of Australia and Appellate Courts.

In addition to his commercial litigation practice, Ian also acts in matters involving corporate insolvency. This includes solvent and insolvent restructures involving the use of the voluntary administration process, liquidations and debt recovery and acting for and against both company directors and liquidators in claims involving breaches of directors’ duties, insolvent trading disputes and uncommercial transaction claims.

Ian also ensures he explores alternative methods of resolving disputes with his clients.
